The European Master on Work, Organizational, and Personnel Psychology (WOP-P) is a postgraduate university programme, supported by the European Commission through the Erasmus Mundus Programme.

The Master requires a university degree in Psychology. The objective is to contribute to the qualification of professionals and researchers in the discipline of Work, Organizational and Personnel Psychology emphasizing a European approach and perspective. The Master implements the main guidelines developed by the Euro-Psych model for the European Diploma of Psychology (EDP) supported by the European Federation of Psychology Association (EFPA). It also follows the Reference Model and Minimal Standards of the European Curriculum in WOP Psychology established by the European Network of Work and Organizational Psychology Professors (ENOP).

Five European Universities are involved: Universitat de València (Spain) as the coordinating institution, Universitat de Barcelona (Spain), Université René Descartes Paris 5 (France), Alma Mater Studiorum-Università di Bologna (Italy), and Universidade de Coimbra (Portugal).

Grants for Non-European students should be considered as “full scholarships” covering all necessary costs of the student during his/her study period in Europe.

International scholarship in the field of Journalism by The Foreign Press Association
The Foreign Press Association, founded in 1918 and the oldest association of journalists in the United States, has established a scholarship program aimed at encouraging foreign students enrolled in graduate programs in this country to pursue a career reporting on international affairs.

A minimum of three scholarships will be awarded, one for $10,000, one for $7,500, and the other for $5,000. The money is to be used for further study in print, broadcast or photojournalism. Only applicants with F-1 and J-1 Visas are eligible for consideration.

Presentation of awards will be made at the Annual Dinner of the FPA in early May 2011.

Submit an OP-ED piece (maximum 750 words)
In many countries around the world, women suffer discrimination that prevents them from taking a full place in society equal to that of men and that exposes them in some cases to physical abuse. There are many reasons for this unequal treatment, including cultural and religious traditions. As former President Jimmy Carter states, “Women are prevented from playing a full and equal role in many faiths, creating an environment in which violations against women are justified. The belief that women are inferior human beings in the eyes of God, give excuses to the brutal husband who beats his wife, the soldier who rapes a woman, an employer who has a lower pay scale for women employees or parents who decide to abort a female embryo.” Mr. Carter sees religion as one of the “basic causes of the violation of women’s rights.” In your essay, discuss the status of women in your own country. In what ways, subtle or overt, do women suffer discrimination? What are the root causes of this unequal treatment? In what ways, if at all, has the status of women changed over the last generation? Finally, what role, if any, has the media played in your country to ensure gender equality and the rights of women? Please use statistics, studies, or other credible evidence to back up your assertions.

Present proof of enrollment in a Graduate program of Journalism.
Submit two letters of reference: a) from a current professor, b) from an editor you have worked for.
Submit only two samples of published or broadcast work. If work is in a foreign language, please send it with an English translation.

The Faculty has approximately 130 Ph.D. students divided into seven departments and one center:

The advertised positions are open for all research fields at the Faculty of Humanities. In the actual processing of the applications, however, strategic considerations may be applied in the selection process, such as imminent need for recruitment within certain disciplines or subjects. Applicants who have recently graduated with excellent results may also be given preference.

The person who is appointed will be enrolled in the Faculty’s organised researcher training. The academic study will terminate in a doctoral thesis which will be defended at the Faculty, leading to a Ph.D.-degree. The successful candidate is expected to contribute into a research group or network, and for a professional development in the environment.

The appointment is for a duration of 3 years. Any previous employment as a research fellow or appointment to another position will in whole or in part be deducted from the appointment time.

Qualifications and personal skills
In assessing the applications, special emphasis will be placed on the quality of the project description and on the assumed academic and personal ability on the part of the candidates to complete the dissertation within the given time frame. The short-listed candidates may be called for an interview at the University of Oslo.

Qualifications
A Master degree or equivalent in an area relevant to the topic of the doctoral dissertation. The masters degree or equivalent has to be achieved by the time of application.

Journalists across the globe can apply for an International Media Studies Master’s Program in Bonn, Germany. Full scholarships will be awarded to ten applicants from Africa, Asia, Latin America or Eastern Europe. The program is sponsored by German media group Deutsche Welle, the University of Bonn and other organizations.The four-semester, full-time program combines theory with training in practical journalism skills, and covers such topics as media and development, media economics, and communication science. The program ends with a master’s thesis and colloquium. Successful graduates receive a Master of Arts (M.A.).

Universitas Indonesia has recently established a new Master`s Degree Programme in Terrorism and Security Studies which will be managed by the Department of International Relations in the Faculty of Social and Political Sciences. Universitas Indonesia aims to play a role in anti-terrorism efforts, at least in two ways. First it will contribute to the development of governmental counter-terrorism policy. This requires strategies to hinder terrorist activity as well as efforts to protect civil rights and social stability. Our rationale is to support and inform the state in its mission to counter terrorism and prevent the derogation of civil rights and liberties whilst also maintaining good governance, security and social services for the people. Secondly it will help create an unbiased and academically sound body of terrorism studies free from the agenda of ruling governments, political parties, agencies and private entities.

Terrorism is only part of a bigger vision of problemmatic issues confronting Indonesians, and other citizens of the world, which are associated with global uncertainty. These issues include financial instability, climate change, pandemics and a range of networked threats organized and run by various illegitimate actors. Globalization has facilitated increased volumes of trade and wealth, as will also be generated from ASEAN`s Free Trade Agreement with China. However we need to be mindful that this wealth will be unevenly distributed. Globalization has also generated an underclass of malcontents and this offers opportunities for new criminal activity and political violence on a considerable scale. This is not limited to organized crime but also parallel effects of money laundering, corruption, weapons proliferation and the emergence of kleptocratic regimes.

Indonesia`s security sector, the parliament, the executive body and security agencies can no longer ignore transnational security issues. While the rush against terrorism dies down as succcessful police killings and captures pile up, we can ask ourselves whether intelligence and security agencies have sufficient capacity to address other transnational issues such illegal trafficking of drugs, women and children and infiltration of illegitimate actors into our borders.

In regard to this background the new Terrorism and Security Studies
Programme will address the following key issues:

- What is terrorism and what drives it? – Who are the `terrorists` and how do they operate? – Which political methods can best help us explain and understand terrorism and state responses to terrorism? – How do national security systems engage with the terrorist threat? – How does the interaction between the international Islamist movement and the nature of the state in Indonesia contribute to the emergence of Islamist terrorism in the country? – Why has political Islam gained popularity in Indonesia and why has it gained significant power in government decision-making. How does this compare with other political movements that have also applied violence in their campaigns? – What are the dynamics between the Islamist movement in the Middle East and South Asia and the growth of the movement in Southeast Asia, especially Thailand, Singapore, Malaysia, the Philippines and Indonesia? – How have the processes of globalization impacted upon terrorism. – How can we understand the relationship between democracy, authoritarianism and terrorism? – How is the threat of terrorism perceived by state or non-state groups? How does this translate into counter-terror policy? – How have Indonesia and other S-E Asian countries interacted with Western military and economic support in recent history?

17 bursaries for a full fee waiver are available for the 2010 intake of students. These bursaries will be available on a competitive basis. Grantees of a fee waiver will be short-listed from the results of the selection test held by Universitas Indonesia.

Each year Queen Mary offers research studentships and master’s bursaries to its most highly new qualified applicants. In recent years, the awards allocated to Humanities and Social Sciences have totaled more than £1 million per annum. These awards are available to both home and overseas students. The terms of the awards are as follows:

* Research studentships include payment of tuition fees (home OR overseas in most cases, check with your department for clarification) for three years and an annual stipend at the relevant research council rate. All studentships are full-time. Current Queen Mary research students are not eligible to apply for these awards, which are designated for new students only. The Discipline of Social Statistics and the Centre for Census and Survey Research at the University of Manchester offer an MSc programme in Social Research Methods and Statistics. The programme provides a firm grounding in advanced quantitative methods, taught within an applied social science framework. The programme is designed to be accessible to non-statisticians yet more focussed than most of the existing Masters courses in social research methods. The MSc course offers relevant and marketable skills for a career in research and is recognised for PhD training by the Economic and Social Research Council (ESRC). Modules are taught with an emphasis on hands-on training in the application of methods and software. The programme is available full-time over one year or part-time over two years.
Scholarships that will cover the fees of up to three excellent full time (Home/EU) students or of one excellent full time overseas student are currently available. In the case of exceptional applicants, in addition to the fees, and subject to funds being available, we will consider offering a bursary towards living expenses. The fees for full time Home/EU students are £3,500 and for full time overseas students £11,300.
Both Home/EU and overseas students are eligible for these scholarships. The scholarships will be awarded on the basis of academic excellence and potential, which will be judged based on academic qualifications and performance and prior experience in social research methods and/or statistics.
The deadline for applications is Wednesday 31st March 2010.
Everyone applying for a full time place in the MSc programme by March 31st 2010 will automatically be considered for these scholarships. Successful applicants will be notified by May 14 2010. The Erasmus Mundus Masters Program in Public Policy (Mundus MAPP) is a 2-year-long international Masters course that embeds the nascent field of transnational public policy into a European context. It is funded by the European Commission, and operated by a consortium of four leading European institutions: the Central European University in Budapest (Hungary) as coordinating institution, the Institut Barcelona d’Estudis Internacionals (IBEI) in Spain; the Institute of Social Studies (ISS) of Erasmus University Rotterdam, located in The Hague (Netherlands); and the University of York in the UK.

The European Commission’s Erasmus Mundus program provides scholarships to outstanding students from within and outside the European Union to attend Mundus MAPP and to visiting scholars to participate in teaching and research. The Consortium universities also support these students by offering partial tuition fee waivers to Erasmus Mundus scholarship recipients.
Mundus MAPP provides a detailed and systematic understanding of how political institutions, processes and public policies operate and interact from the global political economy through to national and local levels with a direct focus on European engagements at these levels of governance. The multidisciplinary curriculum is conceptually grounded in public policy, international relations, development studies, public administration and public management. The program also provides practical work experience and transferable skills gained through an internship programme. Mundus MAPP prepares graduates for international professional careers as policy-makers, policy-analysts and advisors in either politics, the civil service, international organisations or the corporate and non-governmental sectors.

The Mundus MAPP study program lasts two years. The first or foundation year is spent either at the Institute of Social Studies in the Hague, the Netherlands, or at the University of York in the UK. Having completed their courses and a thesis students participate in a summer school, and move for a second academic year either at the Barcelona Institute of International Studies in Spain or to the Central European University in Budapest, Hungary. Students undertake an internship normally after the second academic year.

Mundus MAPP graduates receive two of the following MA degrees as well as a diploma supplement at the end of their studies:

- MA in Development Studies from the Institute of Social Studies; OR – MA in Public Administration and Public Policy from the University of York.

In combination with:

All nationalities enrolling in the following programmes starting September 2010 or February 2011: – Master of Laws: Advanced Studies in Air and Space Law – Master of Laws: Advanced Studies in European and International Business Law – Master of Laws: Advanced Studies in International Tax Law – Master of Laws: Advanced Studies in Public International Law – MA in International Relations and Diplomacy

Additional requirements:

* In his or her prior academic education abroad, the applicant must have achieved excellent study results which are relevant for the programme for which the student wishes to enroll. As an indication, the student will be among the top 10% for the relevant programme followed abroad * The applicant will hold a non-EU/EEA passport and will not be eligible for support under the Dutch system of study grants and loans (“Studiefinanciering”; more information) * Scholarships will not be awarded to applicants who have already obtained a Leiden University master’s degree * Students who are granted a Leiden Excellence Scholarship must comply with and confirm in writing their agreement with the terms and conditions (pdf) attached to the scholarship prior to the granting of the scholarship.

Scholarship Amount: The Leiden University Excellence Scholarship programme has 5 awards:

* Platinum Covers the tuition fee minus the home fee* and an allowance of €10,000 for living costs * Gold Covers the tuition fee minus the home fee* * Silver Covers 75% of the tuition fee * Bronze Covers 50% of the tuition fee * Ivory Covers 25 % of the tuition fee

The tuition fee will be reduced to the amount of the home fee. Students who have been awarded a Platinum or Gold award still have to pay the home fee themselves.

Letter of motivation
To apply for the scholarship, you should write a letter of motivation (in Word) of a maximum of 500 words, in which you indicate why you believe you should be considered for this scholarship. The Word document should then be attached on the scholarship page in your online application for the master’s programmes for which you are applying.

It is possible to submit applications for more scholarship programmes simultaneously. However, it is not possible to obtain more than 1 scholarship from Leiden University for the same study programme.
Selection process: A Faculty selection committee will review the applications. Students are selected on the basis of academic merit.

Please note
Students should be aware that the LExS is not a full scholarship. It is necessary to find additional funding to be able to finance their study and stay completely.

One of the requirements for being granted a residence permit in the Netherlands is that students must submit proof that they have sufficient financial means to finance their study period in the Netherlands. Leiden University advises a budget, not including the tuition fee, of approx. €10,000 to €14,000 per year to cover the costs for rent, insurance, living expenses, course books and local transportation. How much money students actually spend will of course depend on their life style and spending habits
